Professional Bike Fitting

Professional bike fitting at Independent Cycles is done by Chris Burnham, owner of Burnham Coaching. Chris has a foundation in biomechanics and exercise science, and over the last 10+ years has personally fit more than 1,500 athletes—from first-time riders to seasoned professionals. That experience has shaped a simple belief: no two cyclists move the same, and no two riders should be positioned the same.
Our approach is built around the individual. Flexibility, riding history, goals, and natural movement patterns all play a role in finding a truly optimized position. We don’t rely on generic formulas or cookie-cutter measurements. Instead, we combine on- and off-the-bike assessments, high-speed video analysis, and advanced pedaling analytics to uncover the position that delivers the best balance of comfort, efficiency, and performance for each rider.
Every fit begins with a detailed pre-fit assessment designed to understand the rider, not just the bike. We evaluate flexibility, movement patterns, and foot structure, and take time to discuss injury history, riding background, and individual goals so the final position supports how the athlete actually moves and what they want to achieve.
From there, we move to the bike and use high-speed video analysis to refine posture, alignment, and contact points in real time. The process doesn’t end when you leave the studio—every fit includes a follow-up session about 3–4 weeks later to ensure you’ve adapted comfortably to the new position and to make any adjustments needed as your body settles in.
